As a public administrator and mediator, I have learned that most people would rather not consume their lives with conflict. However, sometimes conflicts or disputes escalate and demand full attention, distracting people from more productive pursuits.

It has been said that peace is not so much the absence of conflict, as it is the result of how well people deal with conflict. Although most people know disputes can be settled with honest dialogue, some elect to pursue confrontational strategies. It is helpful to involve a neutral third party before conflicts develop, or to calm a tempest that may develop, refocusing energies on projects, programs, issues and solutions.
